This morning before coming to work I had to drive to a client's house and pick up a mondo box of documents - such is the life of a legal assistant. I don't mind it. Just a shade more annoying was lugging that box, along with the other mondo box of documents I had to take back to the office, from the car up to my desk on the second floor. Still not such a big deal, until you count getting through the doors, the actual size of the boxes, and the not so small baby in my uterus that vehemently prefers not being squished.
So, like any other lazy/pregnant (not sure which one has more bearing) lady, I went upstairs to get the jankie fold-up handcart used almost exclusively for lugging diet dr. pepper from my mother's car to the Firm kitchen.
I loaded up and headed to the front door of the building, where I was pleased to see two gentlemen right next to the door, one inside, the other just standing on the outside, presumably enjoying the 110 degree weather.
As I struggled to keep the handcart from toppling over (extremely jankie!), prop the door open with my foot, and ram the cart over the lip of the threshold repeatedly with no success, I looked around hopefully at the "gentlemen" around me in misguided hope that one of them would actually care that a pregnant lady needed a little help.
Nope. Nada.
Now, I can understand if maybe the guys didn't really know if I was pregnant or not. To be truthful, I'm a fat pregnant chick, so even though I think my six months have surpassed the "not quite sure, should I say something?" stage into the obvious baby belly, some men may be overly cautious. But its no excuse! What happened to holding the door for a lady??? And yes, I firmly believe the fact that I have different reproductive organs makes me special. And so should every other gal in this world! I realize I am very capable of opening my own door. Its a feat I tackle and accomplish on a daily basis. But if a guy is around - especially if a girl needs help - he should open the door for her.
What happened to all the REAL men?
(this most assuredly does NOT include my hubby - he is a gentleman of the highest caliber. Thanks Gloria!)

Becca you are too funny!!! The "not quite sure, should i say something" stage!! That was awesome!!
And yes... most men these days dont open doors... and they suck because of it!!
Ugh! That was just awful for them to sit there and watch you! What wretched men!
Men are just lazy bastards! Minus our husbands. But mostly, men are just pigs.
I believe in holding the door open for everyone or at least doing the courtesy push to keep it open...regardless of gender.
It was interesting, we had a discussion in a sociology class and more than a few girls objected to men holding the door open saying things like, "It makes me uncomfortable" or "I can hold it open for myself" or "When I hold the door open for men they don't know how to respond." So I decided I was an equal-opportunity door opener.
